Young People
Furzedown Youth Centre
MLBC was actively involved in setting up Furzedown Youth Centre (FYC) – an independent charity serving the needs of local young people. FYC uses the basement of St. James Church Hall opposite our church and is staffed by Dave Doran and a team of volunteers.
Schools work
The FYC youth team regularly visits a local secondary school where they spend time with small groups and individuals. Their work focuses upon building relationships with young people, listening to their concerns and raising awareness of the services that are available at the Centre.
Drop ins
On Wednesday afternoons, FYC is open from 3:30 to 5pm for 11 to 18 year olds in the local community to drop in. Sessions include discussions on relevant or current topics and advice on issues such as sexual health.
ClubZone
ClubZone is held at St. Albans Church on Fridays from 7.00 – 8.30pm for those between 11-14 years of age. It is an open youth club run by FYC and features fun, games and sport.
Gig nights
FYC is also used as a venue for occasional gig nights feature local up and coming bands.
